Life Update

So it is finally official. I am not going to run track this year anymore, and am probably done running competitively forever. But, good news, I'm not going to have surgery either. The prognosis was that I have a lot of tissue damage in my feet and all the ligaments and tendons are stretched out. This is what is causing me the pain when I run. But since the tendon is not ruptured, and it only hurts when I run, the doc doesn't think surgery will really help. He said if my feet were hurting me in everyday activities, he would definitely do it, because he has had great success with that. But, he hasn't really had any success with the surgery helping an athlete get rid of the pain at that competitive level.

I asked him what would happen if I kept running, and he said it would still hurt all the time, but wouldn't be doing any damage if it didn't hurt TOO much. Well, how much is too much and what is happening if it hurts too much? He said if it hurts too much, then that means the tendon is probably tearing and could possibly rupture. If it ruptured, they could then do surgery. But if it only tears, he still didn't think it would be worth it to try surgery. So basically if I ran.... I was going to hurt all the time, and if it hurts too much I was going to be damaging myself for years to come, and there was only a fix if the tendon completely ruptured! Not a great prognosis.... So the final decision is - no more competitive running for Tiffany. But ever since we decided that everything has been going really great. I have finally been able to move on with life and realize there is more to life than running and getting medals. To satisfy my competitive drive though, I'm currently taking up the sport of golf since it is low impact, and that seems to be going really well for me.

Not running has also given me the chance to concentrate on school much more than I have ever been able to in college and it is really nice. I am learning a lot! It's amazing how much more you learn from a class when you don't miss 1/3 of all the sessions. My grades are going to be great and it is kinda fun to be back at the top of all my classes like the good old high school days. I have also been able to dedicate some time to studying Spanish again which is great, because I'm determined to be fluent someday. Scrapbooking has also been a current past time, which has been a big 'to do' on my list since we have been able to go so many fun places.

I took the GMAT in the beginning of March and have been accepted into the Masters of Business Administration program here at SUU. I will be starting that degree in the fall. :)
