Brett and I were getting the travel bug and just needing to get out of town, so we went to Seattle for the Valentines weekend. It was a really fun trip and great to get away, even if it was only a couple days.
We got to Seattle Friday evening and put our stuff in our hotel (Fairfield Inn-Marriott, very cheap, thanks to my benefits from my new job at the Marriott here in town), and then took a stroll down the street to a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant for dinner called Herfy's Teriyaki Burger. We generally like to find the little ghetto, local places, because they are different and fun. We haven't been disappointed, yet, knock on wood. I had a hawaiian beef teriyaki burger and Brett had teriyaki chicken and beef with rice. It was really good!

We just hung out the rest of the evening in the hotel - swimming, watching movies, and just relaxing, which was really nice. Saturday we slept in, ate a free deluxe continental breakfast, then headed downtown on public transportation. The day was gorgeous, sunny skies - light jacket weather. We did some shopping at Ross, where I found a new backpack, and two pairs of shoes, and Brett found a nice new shirt. Continuing our journey, in one of the local shops, I found an extremely cute hat, and I've always wanted one like it, so I got it and I love it. We spent the whole day just wandering through the markets, shops, piers, etc.... What a fun city! In the markets, they throw the fish and sing and yell, and there were all sorts of fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, etc... The entire market and shopping center was just jam packed with people, but the atmosphere was great. Everyone had flowers and chocolate, and it was just really fun.

We ate lunch down on the pier in the warm sunshine, where Brett had clam chowder in a bread bowl, and I had Chicken 'n chips. (I almost got halibut since it would be fresh and I might like it, but then decided against it and just stuck with what I know). We got some pretty cool pictures of the hoards of seagulls flying everywhere while we were eating. They were not shy and would come right up to us and practically eat out of our hands. In fact, Brett was about to let one eat out of his hand and I said, "Whoa, be careful, he might bite your finger!" So he just left the pieces of bread on the railing after that. That is officially the second time I have saved him from getting his finger bit off by an animal. The 1st time we were in Argentina at the zoo and he was about to feed one of the monstrous neutra-rats with orange teeth!

After downtown we went and saw the space needle, then headed back to the hotel. We flew out Sunday morning, got home late Sunday night due to much waiting in the airports because of holiday travelers. We then crashed immediately upon arriving home, then both got up early Monday morning to work. Which is why we had to come home Sunday instead of Monday.
And now we are just trying to get caught up with homework and housework before school starts tomorrow, and real life starts again! Traveling is so much fun, but it is kind of hard because I momentarily lose motivation to do anything else, least of all homework, and just want to travel all the time! Brett is much better about keeping caught up while we travel. He does homework in the planes and airports, but for some reason I just can't get myself to do anything but relax while we are away.

This is the huge park w/ lake and swimming area that was right across the street from our hotel. It would bethe perfect place to have a barbecue in the summer.
