I have a photography class this semester and we have one photo due each week with different requirements. This past week the assignment was called 'one word.' As a class we picked one word and then everyone had to take a photo to demonstrate that word. The word we picked was 'Strength.' I mulled over this all weekend trying to think of something to do, and finally came up with this photo.
I took this photo because I think there is a lot of strength and power in a hand-written letter. We are such a technological world today, everything is e-mailed, texted, or phoned. Not many people take the time to hand-write things, and I think this is sad. A lot of meaning is lost when words become digital. This is a letter that Dad wrote to me years ago that has meant a lot to me, and that is why I still have it. It was perfect for the photo I wanted to take.
I turned it in, and then as a class we critiqued every photo in class the next day. After the critiquing, the class chooses one photo to be the 'photo of the week,' and then our Professor gives that person extra credit and makes a print of the photo for you. Luckily enough, mine was picked! I was so excited, and it was way cool to have everyone yelling out my photo to be in the poll and then see everyones hands go up voting for mine. It was very cool, needless to say, and I was very pleased.
