We stopped and saw Liberty Jail in Liberty, Missouri. They have rebuilt the jail and it is housed inside a large granite building. A Sister Missionary gave us a brief history of the jail and the events that led up to the prophet being in the jail, and then there were a few recordings to listen to as well. It was very interesting and we were so glad we stopped! It is always helpful to be able to put things from the scriptures into perspective.
Our first night was in Kansas City. We stayed in a Courtyard Marriott in the Plaza District. Every building was lined with lights and it was a really fun area. We went to a Christmas play that night called the "Christmas Spectacular". It was a quartet and they sang a huge assortment of holiday songs. There was a childrens choir that would occasionally come out and chime in. It was really fun and nice to get out and do something after a day of driving.
Missing State Sign: Oklahoma (They were doing construction and there was only one lane and it was baracaded, hence, nowhere to pull over and take a picture)
We stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma and had lunchat Kilkenny's Irish Pub with some friends that recently moved there for grad school. I had a hamburger that had pesto, cream cheese, and goat cheese on it and it was delicious! We stayed in Oklahoma City that night at a SpringHill Suites Marriott.
I love holiday lights. :)
We pulled off the freeway and onto Route 66 to go to the Devil's Rope Museum (Barbed Wire Musuem), but unfortunately it was closed! The town really was like a ghost town and we were the only ones on the road the entire time. It was just like it is in the movie Cars, it was quite sad.
We stopped in Amarillo, Texas to have lunch at the Big Texan. We both had steak and it was delicious. If you can finish a 72 oz. steak in under 1 hour, you can have it free, but neither of us tried.
We stopped at a couple thrift stores to find ties for Brett's collection and saw the below sign. Really? Hilarious.
Right outside of Amarillo on Cadillac Ranch is where the pictures were taken below.
We continued on to Roswell, NM that night and stayed at a Fairfield Inn Marriott. We saw some cotton fields along the way and they are really neat!

Fabulous photos! The cadillac ranch is hilarious - it was nice you had time to go off road and see some interesting things along the way!
