When it hurts to look back, and you're scared to look ahead, you can look beside you and your best friend will be there.

Minneapolis, Minnesota: The move

After several weeks of commuting back and forth from Minneapoliss to Utah for work, Brett and I finally locked down an apartment,  packed up all of our things in Utah, and made the drive East.  We left the Monday before Christmas and drove 1500 miles over a span of 2.5 days.

We unloaded our U-haul and rode the lightrail downtown in order to attend the Jazz vs. Timberwolves game in Minneapolis.  Brett has always wanted to go to a Jazz game and it is funny that we finally attended one in Minneapolis! We came home to an apartment full of boxes and slept on our mattress on the floor.  We both worked the next few days, so not much unpacking was done initially.

We have finally had a few days off and are mostly unpacked.  The new couch and kitchen table are due to arrive next week. We are so excited to finally finish getting our apartment setup!

It has snowed almost every day since we've been here. For the first two weeks the temperature never rose above freezing so the snow just keeps piling up.  It never has a chance to melt like it does in Utah.  They haul it out of the city with dump trucks and have large snow melters to melt the snow into the river!  All the snow banks by the roads are anywhere from 5 feet to 9 feet high which makes it hard to turn while driving due to lack of visibility.  A couple days ago, the temperature finally rose above freezing and the melting began.  It even rained which cut all the snow banks and piles in half.  Unfortunately, the weather turned cold the day after which led to sheets of ice covering all the roads and sidewalks.

Yesterday after I finished work, I went out to my car and there had been an ice storm.  My car was covered in 1/4" of pure ice! It took me nearly half an hour to scrape my windshields off to drive home.  Fortunately though, they are really good about salting the freeways before the storm hits, so the freeways aren't too bad. What an adventure!

Here's a quick snapshot of the snow we've had here in Minneapolis the last few weeks... :) Happy New Years everyone!
