We arrived at about 1 or so in the morning and since Fairbanks is so far North, guess what, it doesn't get dark there right now... So it was light still. There's nothing that messes with your system more than no darkness. The sun goes down for about 3 hours, but it never gets dark or even close to it for that matter. Weird. The flight up was really trippy, because the sun stayed at the same level the whole way.... it never really moved. We thought we were flying into the sunset, which we were in Salt Lake City, but the sun stayed. To sleep, you have to shut the curtains and tell yourself it is late, even though every time you wake up light is coming through the window and you think it is morning.
Geo-Caching
Randy and Tara have found a new hobby in geo-caching. So we did a lot of that up there which was really fun. If you don't know what that is.... You get a GPS and then get coordinates off of a website, and follow the coordinates. Once you get to the point your going to you have to find a little box or container hidden within ten feet of the coordinates. Once you find it there is a paper inside to sign, and sometimes little trinkets if the box is big enough. It is a really good way sight-see and get ALL around town to see things you might not otherwise.
Here is some of the stuff we got the opportunity to see while we were there. One day we drove out to Denali National Park, which had some very pretty landscape. On the way there we got to see a moose with it's baby moose following cross the road in front of us. Another day we went kayaking down a river for about 3 hours and got to see some of the planes take off the water as well as some more gorgeous territory. One of our favorite places up there, was the North Pole. Yep.... we actually went to the North Pole.... well the town that is called the North Pole anyway. But Santa really does live there, I saw him an
d his reindeer with my own two eyes. :)
