I was working and Brett was sending me an email summarizing his performance after every hole he completed. Enjoy...
Hole 1: Par 5, green in regulation. 3 putted for bogey 6.
Hole 2: Par 3: 188 yds. Green in regulation; 35 footer for par; missed, short by 7 feet; solid putt uphill to the back of the cup for par. Crowd cheers. (Also found 2 callaway golf balls in a ditch drain)
Hole 3: Long Par 4 (ranked the hardest hole of the 9): short drive, water near green, played it safe and laid up with my 2nd shot; 3rd shot on green and left with a 45 foot putt; OOooOOoo, barely missed to the left and 3 feet long. Made 3-footer for bogey. Crowd pity claps for the bogey on the hardest hole.
Hole 4: Par 3: 144 yds; shoot, pulled it left and bounced down the slope into water; forced to take a drop where it entered the water (with a stroke penalty); OOooOOoooo, lipped out on a very difficult downhill chip. Tapped in for a bogey.
Hole 5: Par 4; drive lands in sand trap 100 out; nice chip out, but lands 50 feet from pin; shoot, left and 11 feet long; 2 more puts for a bogey. Mark that up as my 2nd 3-putt for the day. "Boooo" goes the crowd.
Hole 6: Par 5; fairway drive, decent 2nd shot but off to the right; could not attack the pin due to tree, 3rd shot 5 yds short of green; shoot, chip lands 11 feet short. Putt misses by an inch, tap in bogey. Crowd holds up a big number "5" ...looks like their counting bogeys again.
Hole 7: Par 4; wind is picking up; drive in the center of the fairway; 2nd shot balloons up and to the right, short of the green by 30 yds; OH NO, chip soars 45 feet past pin but still on the green. OOoOoOOOooooo, downhill 45 footer drained! Crowd gives standing ovation as they shake their heads in disbelief. Looks like they sharpied a "6" over their "5" too soon on their "bogey count" poster. That makes 2 pars thus far.
Hole 8: Par 3: 203 yds; bad tee shot into the water, tee box is about the closest point to drop so now I'm 3 off the tee. It's short. A chip and 2 putts later ends the hole with a triple bogey. There goes all the hard work, and it's back to bogey golf. 8 over after 8. Golf is just too hard, it was also windy.
Hole 9: Par 5; the 2nd hardest hole on the 9. Oh Great. Nice drive up the left side barely missing trees, but dangerously close to out of bounds. Nice 2nd shot, but bad news, fairway slopes into water and water more left than I thought (it was landing in a blind area). Took a drop and chipped it 15 feet from pin. Barely missed the putt; tap in bogey for a total of 9 over and a score of 45.
Hole 10: Par 5; bad drive, short and luckily a tree batted it down before going out of bounds. Good 2nd shot. In perfect position, but pull my 3rd shot into the sand trap. Out and past the hole by 10 feet. Two putt for bogey.
Hole 11: Par 3: 110 yds (hey, you could play blue tees on this hole); perfect tee shot to the center of the green, but a little too long for a birdie attempt. Missed putt 1 foot to the left. Tap in for par. 4 more pars to reach my quota. Crowd crosses fingers in hope.
Hole 12: Par 5; Shoot! Off the toe of the driver, goes right and well out of bounds. Good recovery drive, very good fairway shot just 10 yds short of the green; chiped to 4 feet from the pin, but it's no guarantee...there is a lot of break in this 4 footer. OoooOOoo, barely slides it in to save Bogey (for a would have been birdie if not for the out of bounds)
Hole 13: Par 4; super narrow tee shot w little room for error, but I figure what the heck and I go for it with a driver. PERFECT drive. Far and a slight curve to the right (the hole doglegs to the right as well). Oh no, I pushed my wedge shot to the right. Very steep slope to the green, I go for the ol "bump and run" chip leaving it a foot from the hole for a tap in par.
Hole 14: Par 3: 175 yds (nothing but water between me and the green); my dream house is also for sale, meaning a house on a par 3 tee box, the house itself isn't too spectacular.
Good news: I stuck the green from the tee. Bad news: I'm looking at a 66 footer. OOOoooOOooo, distance right on, but ended up 18 inches to the left. Tap in for par. If I can par 2 out of the next 4 holes I'll meet my current par quota.
Hole 15: Par 4; uh oh, water all along the right; however, if I hit a solid drive I can clear it.
Hopscotch! My tee shot went right to the water! Good second, or rather, third shot because of the penalty, but short of the green by 50 yds. On and two put for my first double of the day
Hole 16: Short par 4; but heavy with challenge. Due to a pond in the middle of the fairway 237 yds out there, iron is the only option.
PERFECT tee shot ending about 25 yds in fromt of the pond and 125 yds to the green. Unfortunately 125 yards is between clubs for me, so I have to take a little off my swing, but ended up taking too much off, resulting in being 5 yards short. Difficult chip on a slope results in leaving me a 7 foot putt for par. Missed it and tapped in for bogey.
Hole 17: Par 3, 173 yds: this one is impossible due to the fact a tree hangs over the line of sight to the green. Tee shot good, but to the right of the green, as that was my only option until I'm pro and can hook it on purpose. Anyway, bladed chip, then a putt onto the green and a 1 put for a bogey.
Hole 18: Par 3, 232 (whoa that's a long one!) Whoa again, I almost made it to the green. A perfect tee shot (again, narrow fairway, so no room for much error) ended up 10 yds from the green. Oooo, easy chip (but long) and I choked, leaving it 25 feet from the pin. My putt had the line but I left it 1 foot short, tap in for bogey. Not a good ending. 0 pars out of the last 4 holes.
