Miami - June 26-27

Brett and I both had two days off in a row, so we decided to make the most of it and head to Miami for a day.  We got in around 1:00pm and picked up our rental car.  We drove to the hotel, checked in, dropped off our stuff, and headed to Miami beach.  We stopped and ate a pizza, then headed for the shore.  It was a cloudy, somewhat rainy day, but still 85 degrees and wonderful.  We played in the water, laid out, built a sand castle, and just relaxed.  Since it was threatening rain, we basically had the beach to ourselves.

That evening we went back to our car, and noticed there were a lot of tables being setup outside the restaurants.  We then noticed a sign that said 'Culinary Event Starts Here'.  Intrigued we found a tent and learned that there just so happened to be an event called "Taste the World on Two Blocks" starting in 15 minutes.  What a great find!  It was $15 each and you were then given your 'passport' and would go to each restaurant and get a taste of a different kind of food.  They would then stamp your passport and you would proceed to the next stop.  It was so much fun!  They had a few different traveling bands to listen to while eating too, it was a really great time.  We were completely stuffed afterward.
The next morning we got up and went to the Holocaust Memorial near Miami Beach.  It was really intense and sad, but a wonderful reminder of the horrors that took place.  The sculptures were very realistic and provoked strong emotions.

We went back to the beach to see it one more time before flying out.  We walked on it for about 30 minutes, then headed back to fly home.  A quick trip with much needed relaxation.

Wow, those sculptures are haunting - so different from the Holocaust musuem, but very thought provoking. The restaurant tasting tour sounds lots of fun! And what beautiful beaches - all to yourselves.
