Memorial Day

Brett and I both had Memorial Day off, which rarely happens in the industries we work in since they are both open 24/7.  We took full advantage of  the day!  Our first stop was at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery.  This cemetery is so big!  We got online before we went and found out that there is 1 Whitelaw buried there, and 27 Lindstroms.  We looked up the section and number they were in and found one of each.  It was neat to go there on Memorial day and see all the flowers everywhere.  There were graves from World War I, World War II, Vietnam, Korea, etc.... We were glad we went.
The next stop was Minnehaha Falls Park.  We went with very low expectations for this waterfall considering there are not any mountains around, so really, how big could it be?  We were pleasantly surprised though.  I mean, it's still not comparable to most of the falls back home, but bigger than we had imagined.  We got some shakes from Dairy Queen and walked around and enjoyed the scenery.

The next stop was lunch at our favorite Chinese Restaurant called Golden Wok.  It is about 5 minutes from our apartment and has some delicious $5 lunch specials.  We got the General Tso's and Garlic Chicken 'To Go' and went on our way.

We stopped for a brief nap at home, then switched the car out for the scooter and went to find some disc golf courses.  The first course we went to is a 9-hole course and was at Moir Park which sits right above 9-mile river.  There is walking paths, barbecues, and picnic tables all along the river.  We played a round then went down to the river.
We made up this little game where we would try and skip the discs off the water from one side of the river to the other side.  Brett was much better at it than I and consequently, I had to retrieve my disc downstream that didn't quite make it to the other side. The water was quite pleasant which was surprising.  We are used to the rivers always being ice cold because the water is coming straight from the mountains.  Not the case here.

We went for a scooter ride around a couple more lakes on our way to our last stop which was Lake Cornelia Park, which has an 18-hole disc golf course.  We finished the night out at Arby's for dinner.

What a great day! Those rows and rows of headstones on acres and acres . . . what an awe inspiring sight! What a great place to go on Memorial Day to honor those who have sacrificed their all for our freedom - may we ever be grateful to them and honor them for all they have done.
